Combining digital and print media, or digital meets print! is a great way to increase engagement with your audience. It’s fun and it’s effective!
This video describes how Ikea in Norway combined their social media activities with their printed catalogue to have fun and boost their engagement online. Called ‘The Social Catalogue’ it shows how effective a campaign can be when you mix media by combining digital and print.
They asked their 130,000 Facebook and Instagram followers to get involved by simply photographing a favorite page from the catalogue and sharing it online. And by doing so they were all entered into a competition to win their favourite piece from the catalogue. They simply photographed the page, added the catalogue and item hashtags, and posted to Instagram.
Before long, 1000’s of catalogue pages had been posted and every week someone won the product they had posted!
After only 4 weeks, every page from the catalogue had been posted to Instagram.
That’s what I call engagement. And how much did this phenomenal campaign cost? Well apart from a few items of furniture given out as prizes, the cost of the campaign was zero!
Not bad! Not bad at all.
